Media Marketing – Media Events For The Fall

Media Marketing - Media Events For The FallMedia marketing is all about providing the “media” – radio, TV, newspapers and local bloggers with things that THEY would consider news. Your grand opening, while important to you, is not “NEWS” to the general public unless you are adding thousands of jobs or bringing in millions of dollars of tax revenue to the area.

So as a small company, what can you do that is newsworthy? Here are some great media events that you can do for the Fall! Make sure to have a press release for each and contact any media in the area that you think might like to cover your event!

Back To School

Back to school does stop when the first bell rings. Parents have just gotten their lives back and are looking around for things to do! What about hosting an event at your location with a “crossing the finish line” theme. You could have numbers for each participant, drink stations where they could get a libation (spirited or otherwise) and ribbons for getting through the summer un-harmed. Now you are thinking that this is great for restaurants but what about me? If I was a Doctor who had just finished all my back to school physicals and was worried about generating business before flu season kicks in, darn right I would would want to see my clients in my office having fun!

Fall leaves

Once the leaves start to turn and there is a nip in the air, you can do all kinds of fall festivities. Invite your clients and prospects on hay ride, take them all to the local corn maze, sponsor a
“Fall Color” photo contest. Basically, you want to make a big deal about whatever you do and it doesn’t have to cost an arm and a leg, it just needs to be newsworthy!

Halloween

You could get everyone together in your shopping or business center and have a trick-or-treat afternoon for the kids with specials for the moms. Mail out postcards to a five mile radius and make sure to invite the press to come too! Want to do good at the same time you are marketing? Sponsor a “free costumes” day at your local scare store. Invite parents who have hit hard times to come by and get a free costume for their kiddos. EVERYONE jumps on the “food for Thanksgiving” bandwagon, it is when you do something that no one else is doing that it becomes “news”.

Thanksgiving

Speaking of Thanksgiving, you could do a giving thanks for our community and write about a different business or charity each day on your blog. Go out and take a picture and do a little video (almost like the news yourself!). The reason this is media is that you are doing something BIG…a featured post a day that is not self serving is something newsworthy.

Media marketing wrap up!

You would be surprised what is news. We sent out a press release to the local paper about doing exercise classes in the park. A few weeks later our clients were contacted by a reporter who was doing a piece about free stuff to do in parks….SCORE. Free publicity.

What you need to do is figure out YOUR skills and talents (I can’t host a public event to save my life but I am darn good at networking) and them utilize them in a grand way that will make good copy! Oh, and make sure to tell the press about it!

[Media Marketing] How To Find and Communicate With Journalists

Media Marketing How To Find and Communicate With JournalistsPR (Public Relations) and regular media marketing used to be REALLY hard. You had to work FOR YEARS to build relationships with newspaper people, get the magazine editor’s ear or wine and dine important people all over town to get some of your news in print.

Well those days, they are over! Today if you want to get in print, on TV or online, you better be submitting your content on their websites or to their social media platforms!

Here are some of the best ways to find and communicate with journalists!

Their websites! Almost every news outlet, from old fashioned newspapers to TV stations has a “report some news” area that you can plop your press release into.

On Google Plus…have to say that I find Google Plus to be crawling with journalists actually using the platform for news acquisition and sharing. Here is a tip for how to find them to add to your circles!

On Twitter…SUCH a good way to find and connect with journalists. The news has truly adopted Twitter because of the ease of use and immediacy of posting.

Last but not least is a REALLY important point. Just adding journalists to your social media won’t get you far. Submitting a bunch of spam articles to your local paper won’t either. Here are a couple of more tips for you…

1. DO be very professional when you submit. Journalists are trying to find news and are SUPER busy. Make sure the news you submit has a story that they can share easily.
2. DO NOT be a goober. Circling them today and asking for a favor in an hour is probably not going to fly! Make sure you like the BEFORE you need them.
3. DO target journalists that are looking for news in your industry. Sending the Lifestyle section reporter information about your business opening will probably just make them sad that you are spamming them!
4. Lastly, DO nice stuff for them first. Share their articles, stories and posts.

Media Marketing: Getting Your Site Seen By Google and People Searching For Your Stuff

Media Marketing: Getting Your Site Seen By Google and People Searching For Your StuffWhen writing ѕаlеѕ copy for уоur business’s wеbѕitе, it iѕ еѕѕеntiаl that уоu writе ѕаlеѕ сору whiсh саn еаѕilу be found bу ѕеаrсh еnginеѕ like Google. Sеаrсh Enginе Oрtimizаtiоn (SEO) is аn еѕѕеntiаl ѕkill for success in marketing businesses online.

If уоu don’t know hоw to орtimizе уоur сору уоu will need tо lеаrn hоw tо dо thiѕ. The соѕt оf a рrоfеѕѕiоnаl tо dо (SEO) will be high, but it iѕ not ѕоmеthing you ѕhоuld over lооk. It соuld help you bеаt thе орроѕitiоn, so I’ll givе you a brief оutlinе оf what уоu can dо to improve your сhаnсеѕ in thе аbѕеnсе of a professional SEO соруwritеr. As I’vе аlrеаdу said, SEO stands for ‘Search Enginе Optimization’. SEO is the technique оf generating traffic frоm thе ѕеаrсh еnginеѕ, (in раrtiсulаr Gооglе) tо уоur wеbѕitе.

Thеѕе viѕitоrѕ аrе intеrеѕtеd in уоur рrоduсtѕ/ѕеrviсеѕ bесаuѕе they have bееn ѕеаrсhing for them uѕing search terms whiсh correspond with уоur wеbѕitе. Writing ѕаlеѕ сору fоr a website will invоlvе writing сору in ѕuсh a way thаt it will achieve two important goals:

The firѕt bеing tо gеt viѕitоrѕ tо соmе tо your ѕitе viа search еnginеѕ.

The ѕесоnd gоаl is making sure thаt рlеntу оf qualified visitors whо are more likеlу tо bесоmе уоur lоуаl customers аlѕо viѕit уоur ѕitе. These viѕitоrѕ аrе more likеlу to become сuѕtоmеrѕ ѕinсе thеу аrе definitely looking fоr your content аѕ thеу hаvе arrived via a ѕеаrсh оf thе kеу words уоu hаvе uѕеd in уоur sales сору and Mеtа tаgѕ.

Cаrеfullу written Wеbѕitе Sаlеѕ Cору

Whеn рrоduсing ѕаlеѕ сору for уоur wеbѕitе, uѕing lоng tаil key wоrdѕ оf 2 tо 3 wоrdѕ will uѕuаllу mаximiѕе your роtеntiаl tо соmрlеtе ѕаlеѕ. This is vеrу important and must be researched саrеfullу. Alѕо make ѕurе your сору hаѕ thе ѕаmе kеуwоrd аѕ аnу аdѕ, аrtiсlеѕ, slides, etc. that уоu hаvе аnd рrоduсеѕ and rеlаtеѕ tо thе same products and services. Yоur keyword density, thаt iѕ уоur mаin keywords/ рhrаѕеѕ ѕhоuld make up no mоrе than 2% to 5% оf уоur bоdу сору. More thаn thiѕ реrсеntаgе will course thе ѕеаrсh engines to bесоmе unrеѕроnѕivе ignоring your sales mаtеriаlѕ all tоgеthеr. Alѕо, fоr thiѕ rеаѕоn, your kеу wоrdѕ must rеlаtе directly tо уоur рrоduсtѕ/ѕеrviсеѕ.

Titlе аnd Dеѕсriрtiоn Meta Tags

If your ѕаlеѕ copy iѕ fоr your website, уоu аlѕо hаvе tо рау раrtiсulаr аttеntiоn tо уоur title аnd dеѕсriрtiоn Mеtа tags. Tо briefly еxрlаin, уоur meta tаgѕ аrе соnсеаlеd within the (HTML) hуреr text mark-up language аt the back оf every wеbѕitе. Yоu can ѕее an еxаmрlе оf this by gоing to аnу wеbѕitе аnd right сliсking anywhere on thе main bоdу оf the ѕitе and сhооѕing ‘viеw ѕоurсе’ frоm thе dropdown mеnu. Yоu will find thе Mеtа tags аt thе tор оf thе ѕоurсе code.

Meta tags are extremely imроrtаnt fоr twо mаin rеаѕоnѕ. Thе firѕt is thаt ѕеаrсh еnginеѕ lооk at thеѕе tаgѕ tо determine whаt уоur wеb раgе iѕ аbоut, whiсh will dеtеrminе whеrе it will арреаr in terms of index page ѕеаrсh еnginе
rаnkingѕ.

That iѕ, уоur wеbѕitе could appear in 1st, 2nd оr 3rd роѕitiоn on раgе 1, 2 оr 3, etc., thе mаin kеуwоrd/kеуwоrd рhrаѕе for еасh page on your website ѕhоuld bе inсludеd in bоth thе Titlе and Description tаgѕ. Clеаrlу, роѕitiоn 1 on page 1 in any search еnginе rаnking iѕ thе bеѕt оf all аnd iѕ where уоu ѕhоuld аim tо bе. Thе ѕесоnd reason why thеѕе tаgѕ аrе so vеrу imроrtаnt is thаt thiѕ is thе сору a rеаdеr will ѕее when уоur раgе соmеѕ uр in ѕеаrсh еnginе results.

Entice your Reader

Aftеr a little practice уоu’ll know if уоu’rе gеtting it right as уоur words will create fееling and emotion аѕ you write thеm. Yоu will begin to еxреriеnсе taste, ѕmаll, ѕоund еtсеtеrа аѕ уоur wоrdѕ dаnсе аnd ѕkiр оn thе раgе in frоnt оf уоu. Of соurѕе thiѕ all dереndѕ оn whаt уоu аrе writing аbоut. For example, writing ѕаlеѕ сору аbоut a frаgrаnt ѕра wоuldn’t uѕuаllу сrеаtе thе emotion of a frееzing соld rainy dау. Similаrlу writing ѕаlеѕ сору аbоut сitruѕ bath оilѕ, gеlѕ аnd ѕоарѕ mау create thе emotion аnd frаgrаnсе оf walking thrоugh a leafy оrаngе grove with its brightly соlоurеd fruit all аrоund you!! Alwауѕ rеmеmbеr, it iѕ being аblе put yourself in thе rоlе оf the reader whiсh will еnаblе уоu tо writе winning ѕаlеѕ сору which attracts eyes ѕеllѕ your stuff.

Using Video to Attract Media Attention

Using Videos To Attract Media AttentionGetting positive media attention for your business is a great way to add credibility to your products, make your business popular in the shortest possible time, and it can also act as a free of cost marketing for your business. Video marketing campaigns, especially designed to attract media attention, can reach exceptional large number of audiences in just a few hours of launching them. This is something that you simply can’t achieve through traditional advertisements.

Getting media attention is not a small accomplishment in any way. It can prove to be a game changer especially for small businesses. The best part is that these strategies are completely legal and attract a huge number of customers to your business instantly.

8 ways to make your video attract the eyes of the media:

1. What the media wants. Understand that media personnel are always looking for content that can inspire audience participation. They’re looking for their content to go viral just like you are, help them out by giving them interesting stuff.

2. Keep it short. Less than three minutes is required, but 1-2 minutes is even better!

3. Engage the viewer in first 10 seconds – use a creative “hook” to grab attention. Kicking off with a controversial topic or question will engage the viewer and elicit an emotional response. Viewers will want to respond with comments or sharing which will attract more viewers, which will eventually attract the media.

4. Make something unique. Show the viewer something that hasn’t been seen before (or often) and people will pay attention and most likely share your video, which will attract more attention.

5. Post often, post a lot. The most-viewed video publishers post daily or very frequently. Your chances of getting your video seen in the right places will increase with the number of videos you produce – assuming your content is entertaining and engaging. Fresh outsells good.

6. Put thought into the title, tags and description of your video. Videos can be SEO’d just like websites these days, make sure your video can be found easily on search engines like Google. Use terms like “how to,” “why does,” “who is,” “when is…” wherever possible.

7. Publish your videos at right time. Avoid weekends and Friday afternoon when people are less likely to see or take the time to view your content. Before noon on Tuesdays or Wednesdays are safe bet.

8. Engage, engage, engage! Keep your viewers plugged in and watching until the end. Go for “ooo’s”, “ahhh’s” and “oh-no’s” which will keep watchers emotionally connected. If your viewers walk away touched, shocked, or highly amused they are more likely to be verbal about it, and the more people talking about it, the more likely it will find its way into the hands of the media.

How to Create a Video Press Kit the Media Will Love

Creating A Video Press Kit The Media Will LoveA media kit (sometimes called a press kit) is a package of materials that introduces you and your organization or project to media professionals that may be interested, and answers their questions about it. An electronic press kit, or EPK, is typically hosted online at your website, but can also be distributed over a DVD, The Internet (website, blog, social media profiles, email), and USB flash drive.

Nothing compels and calls to action like video. It can be a personal message from you via your digital camera or laptop. Or you may choose to get even more creative with a short promotional video designed to entertain potential interviewers while highlighting what makes you newsworthy. The goal is to keep the reporter, producer or editor engaged. Point out all the ways you’re unique or different. Spotlight your compelling story or impact you have on your community or people you have helped. The advantage of using videos is that you can make use of imaginative and appealing ways to attract media coverage. (For more tips and tools for creating your video, go to https://www.youtube.com/user/marketingartfully.)

You’ll want to get your video in front of as many sets of eyes as possible in order to get interviewed by the press. A well crafted EPK is a great introduction and lure to get publications that may be interested in you to see for themselves how awesome you are. Start by building an effective media list with as many relevant contacts as you can finagle. Create a marketing strategy for ongoing outreach to the press. And before you hit “send” on your EPK campaign, Make sure your EPK has the following elements:

1. A fact sheet. The fact sheet is a one page document with bullet points about what makes you amazing and different and is meant to be scanned by a busy editor or reporter.

2. Biography another important ingredient of your media kit. Limit this also to one page and list only your most interesting highlights. If you have a longer bio on your website, you can include a link on your bio page.

3. High resolution professional photo of yourself (also known as a “headshot”). It’s preferable to hire a professional photographer for this as the editors and producers will be much happier with the results. Sometimes major publications will send their own photographer to get a completely unique photo that has not been used elsewhere. For the most part though, it will be yours that they use in their publication.

4. Multiple types of videos. Include your overview/introduction, clips of you “in action”, and promotional video for your company, book, or program.

5. Web Links. If your EPK is online but not on your site, or you’re delivering via DVD or USB Flash drive, be sure to include a link to your website, as well as links to any social media presence that your company/project may have (like Facebook , LinkedIn, Google+, or Twitter). Also include links to your work (audio, video, images or texts).

6. Web-Ready Graphics and Banners. Include any graphic you might have that would be relevant to a great story about you or your business.

7. Links to Interviews. If your EPK is on your website, include any links to interviews that you might have done, whether they be audio, video or just text. This leaves it in the hands of the reader to decide just how much to listen to, watch, or read, and also keeps your kit nice and simple.

8. Endorsements. If you’ve been mentioned on popular websites or blogs, share that. Include any awards you’ve received. Have you worked with recognized names? If you have raving fans include links to their video testimonials.

9. Contact Details. It is important to include your complete contact information in your EPK, and especially, make sure they can email you directly from your media kit. The more convenient you make it for them to easily connect with you, the more likely that they will.

Also, include a few story suggestions and sample questions that you think the reporter or producer might want to ask. Having done some of the work for them will make the journalist’s job easier, and score big points for you!
