Marketing Your Independent Travel Business

Marketing Your Independent Travel BusinessMarketing your independent travel business doesn’t have to be difficult. The secret is making sure your objectives for your business are clear and precise.

Many people own businesses but success in business comes with ‘systematic strategic planning’. Unfortunately, many people in business fail to be organized and hence, miss out on a lot in their business.

Here are some tips for creating a successful marketing strategy for your independent travel business:

  1. Know your current rating in the market. Get feedback from existing customers to find out how they would rate your business. Do research to see how your business shows up and stacks up against the competition. Use this information to set goals for your business and identify keys for your marketing strategy.
  2. Know who your buyers really are. Marketing is truly about hitting a specifically defined niche. Get detailed about who your target market really is. Write out a full description of their location, sex, age, median income and other characteristics that are important to their decision to work with you.
  3. If you have a website (and if you don’t get one NOW), use the website address on your company letterhead, business cards and email signatures. This is one of the simplest ways to market your independent travel business.
  4. If your company has promotional items, like key chains, T-shirts, coffee mugs and so on, have your phone and website printed on them and give them away as much as possible. Take them to networking events and give them to the organizer to give to select attendees. Drop off a box full at your local radio stations – along with a meal for the current show hosts, which might get you a complimentary casual mention on air. Give them as gifts for people who register for your newsletter.
  5. Get active in your community. Consider donating a travel package to a deserving family that is overcoming a hardship, or a couple who never got a true honeymoon, or a returning war vet.
  6. Send press releases anytime your company offers a new promotion or does something notable within the community.
  7. Create attractive ads for your business that will target the required audience. Place them on the websites where there is high traffic; Craigslist’s, back pages, Facebook, and many other websites.

Successful travel industry marketing comes with creating and implementing your strategies along with a little bit of determination and consistency. All you really need is a plan and the willingness to put your plan into action.
