Social media sites offer many benefits for professional services including networking, nurturing leads and, promoting your content. Here are some of the top social networks for making a great impact with your professional services business.</p>
<p><strong>LinkedIn</strong></p>
<p>As a professional service provider, you should definitely be on LinkedIn, the world&#8217;s largest business-focused social network. LinkedIn provides multiple ways to promote your service related content. You can post new blog posts and content announcements to your profile page, where your contacts will see them. You can join groups focused on your specific industry where you can share links to your content with targeted groups of people. Many may be in need of your services or potentially seeking experts to refer people to.</p>
<p>Avoid pitching your services or promoting your content in a sales focused way. Instead, be helpful, offering real answers to people&#8217;s questions. Find interesting conversations and hop in. When the opportunity allows, include a link to a piece of content you or someone else at your company has written that is relevant to the topic via comments that support the point you are making. Focus only on building your credibility as an expert and trust from your potential readers</p>
<p><strong>Twitter</strong></p>
<p>People love engaging on Twitter because it allows them to read and/or publish bite-sized chunks of information. Twitter posts are easy to write, digest, and share.</p>
<p>The nature of the Twitter platform allows you be a little more self-promotional. You’re free to announce new blog posts and any other relevant content, however, if every &#8220;tweet&#8221; you send contains a link to your own content, you’ll lose followers. Only about 20 percent of your tweets should contain links to your own content, while 80 percent should be focused on sharing other people&#8217;s content. Always try to communicate the benefit of the item you’re sharing so people feel compelled to click the link.</p>
<p>Twitter is also only effective if you have followers. You will need to focus some effort on finding Twitter members in your industry and interacting with them. In all social media, if you want people to follow you, you need to engage with others and find a genuine way to bring your experience, insight and expertise to the conversation.</p>
<p><strong>Facebook</strong></p>
<p>Facebook is the largest social network in the world, with 900 million users. It’s sheer size and popularity makes it a serious contender for any motivated service professional. Many professional service providers invest heavily in Facebook marketing tools, and experience genuine success.</p>
<p><strong>YouTube</strong></p>
<p>YouTube can be an essential platform for publishing videos your company produces. YouTube is second only to Google as the most heavily utilized search engine, so if you learn to optimize your videos properly, you&#8217;ll be able to maximize promoting your services through the search feature.</p>
<p><strong>Pinterest</strong></p>
<p>Pinterest is a bulletin board for sharing “pins” which are images that link to other content. It is primarily a visual platform for people to share photos, infographics, websites, books, and more. Professional service providers can experience great success by focusing their efforts on a targeted campaign using compelling images that link back to a blog post or article on their own website.</p>
<p>We have found that we get some really good traffic to our websites by making our photos (like the one for this post) show exactly what the post is about! This allows the user on Pinterest to see that our &#8220;Pin&#8221; is actually a link to an article!</p>
<p><strong>Timing</strong></p>
<p>Plan to spend at least 30 minutes, five days a week developing your presence and following on each social network. For busy professionals that aren’t able to manage that much time in cultivating your social networks,  delegate the task to others who are smart and credible enough to represent you accurately, engage others effectively, and build trust with your online followers.</p>

<p>Everybody loves to win, and contests are extremely popular. Especially when the prize is a romantic getaway or an amazing cruise to somewhere exciting, people are compelled to submit entries in the hopes of winning something of value.</p>
<p>Social media makes contests extremely accessible. It’s no not necessary to mail, text, or call to submit your entry, in today’s world all that  it takes is to send a tweet, share a post, or ‘Like’ a Facebook page.  Many travel companies are now using contests on social media to increase their followers and ‘fans’ on Facebook and experiencing great success.</p>
<p><strong>2. Group deals on Daily Deals sites</strong></p>
<p>Group deals on popular daily deal sites are a great way to build brand awareness. In order to take advantage of the special savings, consumers are required to share with friends or via posts on their own social media profiles, which in turn increases awareness for your promotion and therefore your brand. Typically the advertiser has little to no up front costs to take advantage of this type of advertising, and can set limits as to how many deals they will allow consumers to purchase.</p>
<p><strong>3. SEO and boosting awareness</strong></p>
<p>Search Engine Optimization allows a company to  increase online presence and increase their search engine ranking making them easier to be found when potential customers are seeking their services.</p>
<p>The use of SEO Optimized videos, articles, webinars, infographics causes the brand’s name to appear more frequently throughout the internet and increases the likelihood that interested consumers will “share” your interesting content,  which in turn increases brand awareness.</p>
<p><strong>4. Consumer reviews</strong></p>

<p>Social media gives companies a platform to connect with and engage their customers on a personal level. This lends itself to creating a highly personalized interaction for your customers and potential customers. When they feel as though they can converse at their convenience with a real person behind the page they are more likely to do business with you and recommend you to their peers.  Take advantage of opportunities to stimulate conversations among your fans by posting fun videos, questions, and photos of interesting things that are pertinent to your industry or services. There are some basic truths about newsletters like open rates, content, and click through rates that many Realtors either don&#8217;t know about or focus on. Today is the day! You are reading this and we are going to talk about all those things and more (like what to put in those newsletters!)</p>
<p><strong>Real Estate Newsletters Open Rates</strong></p>
<p>Let&#8217;s just jump right in! According to this <a title="mail chimp email open rates" href="http://mailchimp.com/resources/research/email-marketing-benchmarks-by-industry/" target="_blank">MailChimp Email Survey</a>, a good open rate (how many you sent out compared to how many people actually opened your email and looked at it) for real estate is 37.2%.</p>
<p>Some things that will effect your open rate include whether they recognize your &#8220;from&#8221; name, your subject line and, let&#8217;s face it, whether they are looking to actually buy or sell a house at this particular moment. I know that as a consumer, I am hyper focused on the car industry, consumer reports and more when I am getting ready to buy a car, but <strong>one second</strong> after I sign on the dotted line my interest drops to zero for about the next ten years. Buying or selling a house is like that for most people, keep that in mind!</p>
<p><strong>Real Estate Newsletters &#8211; Subject Lines</strong></p>
<p>I read a real estate investing newsletter a couple of times a month because the author has AMAZING email subject lines. I am not generally interested in real estate investing but his subject lines compel me to HAVE to know what is going on in there! <em>Bryan Ellis is included in our <a title="100 great email subject lines" href="http://marketingartfully.com/2012/11/21/100-great-email-subject-lines-email-newsletters/" target="_blank">100 Great Subject Lines Post</a></em></p>
<p>So, imagine you are sitting at your desk with your todo list of about a gagillion things and an email from your favorite accountant pops up. It says Rich Cantor&#8217;s Newsletter for May. Now, you may like your accountant A LOT and you may really intend to get back to it later and read it&#8230;but you get busy and it schooches down so you don&#8217;t see it anymore.</p>

<p>Direct sales is a great way to make some extra spending money, connect with friends and generally have a franchise business model on a one-on-one scale. Your company provides the product, the shipping, the payment processing and more, what you provide is the hard work and the sales that make the organization effective. </p>
<p>As with every endeavor, there are the top 20 percent who are actually working it HARD and trying to make money. There are also those who are just dabbling to trying to make pin money. The dabblers can use the tools that the company provides well enough to get by, but if you are truly going to make a go of this for the long term, you MUST get some more effective systems in place!</p>
<p><strong>Your Database</strong></p>
<p>Every direct sales company provides you with a database where you can put your orders in and store your contacts. They sometimes provide newsletters for you to send and will announce sales to your customers. They may also have some training and verbiage to use with your downline. These features are great for the 80 percenters. That is all that they need in order to be able to meet their minimum sales quotas in order to remain active. </p>
<p>But what about YOU? You need more than that in order to rise to the top of your game!</p>
<p>A database can accomplish A LOT for your direct sales business. You can:</p>
<ul>
<li>Put in your customers and connect with them outside of the company</li>
<li>YOU own it, the company cannot take it away if you have a bad month (or if they go out of business)</li>
<li>Set up your events with reminders and calls to actions</li>
<li>Lead generate new downline people and customers</li>
<li>Make money when you want to, not relying on your company to do your lead generating</li>
<li>Segregate your list (people who buy certain kinds of products, who only like sales, who are interested in business opportunities. and about a million other things!)</li>
<li>You get the opportunity to put EVERYONE you meet in there without spamming them from a company level</li>
</ul>
<p>Okay, are you at least a little intrigued about the way you can run your business like a business yet?</p>
<p>Here is a marketing plan that we put together for one of our customers who will be using <a href="http://mandmmonsters.com/why-infusionsoft/" title="Why Infusionsoft!"><strong>Infusionsoft</strong></a> (our preferred database)</p>
<ol>
<li>To communicate with current downline and others who are not in downline but in [their company] for purposes of increasing sales and selling consulting packages</li>
<li>To implement a data capture program on their new site  using magnets (free offers) and followup programs</li>
<li>To garner referrals from existing contacts</li>
<li>To move suspects to prospects and prospects to sales of [their company] or consulting</li>
<li>To have a followup program for networking contacts</li>
<li>To use event marketing tactics</li>
</ol>
<p>And that is just the initial launch phase! Once we have those pieces in place, we can move on to increasing conversions (people who say they want to buy or join your team and who haven&#8217;t yet). Make more autoresponders and free offers to get people interested in their direct sales company. Increase their coaching and consulting opportunities and more, more, more.</p>
<h2>What Kind of Database Should You Use?</h2>
<p><b>Infusionsoft</b></p>
<p>I am going to start with what I really feel is a no brainer. If you are trying to feed a family, put your kids through college or use direct sales to make an actual, sustainable income, you need to use <a href="http://mandmmonsters.com/why-infusionsoft/" title="Why Infusionsoft!"><strong>Infusionsoft</strong></a>. It allows you to integrate all of your marketing efforts like events and parties, your website lead capture, your followup emails and just about everything else under the sun. </p>
<p>Pros &#8211; Having used numerous databases in the past, I can unequivocally say that this one is the easiest to use and that their support and training are second to none.<br />
Cons &#8211; There is a setup fee and it costs a couple hundred bucks a month. Now, if you are in business, a couple hundred bucks is just one more party or one new downline person, BUT this is not for dabblers.</p>
<p><b>Mail Chimp</b></p>
<p>If you are just starting out and know you are going to be a rock star (just not making rock star money yet), <strong><a href="http://eepurl.com/sVgBL" title="mail chimp - email database" target="_blank">Mail Chimp</a></strong> will get you started growing an email list. It will not allow for the event marketing, targeted autoresponders and many other things I think are VITAL, BUT it will get you started for free (or almost free). </p>
<p>Pros &#8211; At least you are doing something! and it is CHEAP (in business I have found usually I get better value for what I pay for!)<br />
Cons &#8211; Does not have the capabilities to be an all in one solution so you will still be cobbling together a bunch of different systems to accomplish your goals.</p>
<p><b>Constant Contact</b></p>
<p>Oh the Constant Contact. They were first on the scene with an email database for tiny businesses. They do have some list segregating capabilities BUT one thing holds me back about them. When you put their form on your website and a user hits submit, they go to a page that asks them if they are on the right list. If they do not hit yes, they are not in your database! We had a client we drove thousands of hits to his form and he got a handful of signups. I looked like a schmoe and I hate that. </p>
<p>Pros &#8211; Cheap and nice template for email newsletters. Better than nothing.<br />
Cons &#8211; The online form. If you are only getting one in ten who understand that they HAVE to click that button, you are wasting your time and money!</p>
